We started a little earlier at the abandoned buildings of the old saw mill. Warmer than it was the day before, a strong wind kept us cool. We walk without hourly rest breaks, so by the time we made our first stop we had covered 10 miles.

In the distance I could see a pickup truck parked on the side of the road. Two people moving around it look as though they were picking up litter. As I got closer I could see that it was a man and a women and they were picking up and throwing cans into the back of their truck.

We chatted. It turned out to be a couple of local residents who had come up to look for mushrooms, and pick up some litter as well. As they shoed me the morels and talked about how tasty they were an idea was being born. For days I had been disturbed by the litter that we passed along the side of the
road.

I wondered what a person was thinking (or not thinking) when they tossed something from a car or as they walked along a road? As we attempt to address the big environmental issues, such as loss species, habitat, global warming, etc. were we missing an opportunity to help create real change?

Back at our camp Bob Nelson and some fellow Rotarians prepared a delicious dinner Berger and hotdog dinner, With salads beans and desert.
