Dr. Francis will discuss with participants the issues he raised in his keynote address: how the current environmental crisis is a reflection of world-wide social and economic inequity and that any attempt to resolve the crisis must address not only the scientific issues, such as climate change and deforestation, but also the humanitarian issues. From peace and justice to everyday civility, Dr. Francis contends that our connection to the earth as well as each other is at the heart of the environmental crisis.
Speaker: John Francis
John
Francis obtained a BA at Southern Oregon State College, an MS in
environmental studies at the University of Montana and a PhD in land
resources at the University of Wisconsin—all the while without
motorized vehicles for 22 years, 17 of them silent! Since 1990, he has
shared his perspective. He wrote oil pollution regulations for the US
Coast Guard, and was appointed a United Nations Environment Program
Goodwill Ambassador to the World's Grassroots Communities.
