Katja Explains Sea Temperature Variation

September 4, 2009 21:00 HR It was difficult sleeping last night. There was so much pounding through rough seas. In the morning I replaced my seasickness patch and after breakfast went below to my cabin where I fell promptly to sleep. I took naps through the day. The weather was beautiful with blue skies, sun breaking through puffy cumulus clouds. Interviews and taping for broadcast went o all day. Up in the focsil, some musicians gathered to play music. They had composed a blues song about being seasick. Katja Philippart explained about the water temperature. It had risen from 17.7 degrees C to 18.5 C. That along with the upwelling that she showed me in satellite images on her computer help to explain a red band indicating an area rich in nutrients. Sara Darwin, and Christopher Lloyd worked on an evolution game. There is always something going on. On deck I take my banjo out of it case and play. And then the chairs slide across the room. The atmosphere. The reading for today are:: 45 degrees 36.9’ N, 008 degrees W, wind speed 15 knots, wind direction WNW Another parameter we will add to our daily reading will be water temperature Today it is 18.5ºC The wind speed has dropped down to about 11 Knots. The ship motion is gently rolling.
